(QDND) Online – On April 26, the unit managing and operating the road tunnel through the Hai Van pass said that the Ministry of Transport issued Document No. 2230/BGTVT-DTCT approving the adjustment of road tolls at the Bac Hai Van station to raise funds to maintain operation, management and payback for Hai Van 2 Tunnel. The adjustment is going to start at 0 A.M on May 1, 2021.

Hai Van 2 Tunnel (connecting Thua Thien Hue province with Da Nang city) was inaugurated on January 11, 2021. This is the longest mountain road tunnel in Southeast Asia with a length of more than 6,2 km. Hai Van 1 Tunnel (completed in 2005) associating with Hai Van 2 Tunnel has created a complete road tunnel project with two tunnel branchs circulating opposite direction.

It takes 45 minutes to go on the pass, 15 minutes to go through the Hai Van 1 tunnel, about 6 minutes since Hai Van 2 put into operation. Dust, fuel consumption and traffic accidents have reduce. Traffic congestion has been thoroughly overcome.

The representative of the project investor, Deo Ca Group, said that the investor has completed all the items of the project and the obligations under the contract signed with appropriate authority. The adjustment complies with the signed project contract  and the Circular No. 60/2018/TT-BGTVT for road tunnel works. Vehicles have many choices that including going through the Hai Van Tunnel or going free in charge through La Son – Tuy Loan expressway near the operation. In addition, Bac Hai Van Toll Station has exempted and reduced road use fees for vehicles that are eligible for exemption or reduction according to the regulation.

Traffic through Hai Van Tunnel per day is currently about 11.000 turns. However, in June 2021, La Son – Tuy Loan expressway was planned to put into operation. The revenue of the Bac Hai Van toll station may be negatively affected by the many vehicles may go through the new expressway. The investors continue to petition the authorities to soon solve problems about the financial plan for the project, such as disbursing the State budget capital committed to participating in the project and adjusting the toll collection mechanism at La Son – Tuy Loan toll station.
