After 8 years of operation (From August 21, 2017 to August 21, 2025), Deo Ca road tunnel has safely served nearly 19 million vehicles. It plays an important role in boosting regional trade connectivity and strongly driving socio-economic development in Central Vietnam and across the country.
The overview of Deo Ca tunnel.
According to the operation management unit’s report, the tunnel has safely handled nearly 19 million vehicles, with an average traffic volume of 195,000 vehicles per month (about 9,400 vehicles per day and night) over the past 8 years. After the COVID-19 pandemic (2020-2021), traffic volume has steadily grown at an average of 10% per year, while the proportion of vehicles using the mountain pass route has dropped to 7.8%. This underscores the tunnel’s vital role in ensuring smooth traffic flow.
Operations continue to be strictly maintained around the clock, even during holidays and the Lunar New Year.
During this period, Deo Ca Tunnel Operation Management Enterprise also effectively handled 83 accidents and six fires outside the tunnel, with no fires or serious accidents occurring inside. Despite the increase in traffic, the number of accidents has decreased, with one fewer case recorded in 2025 compared to the previous year. This reflects the unit’s professionalism and high responsibility in its operational management.
The company maintains strict 24/7 operations, even during holidays, with regular cleaning and maintenance of all equipment and infrastructure following procedures approved by the General Department for Roads of Vietnam. The staff receives extensive training in corporate culture, fire prevention, rescue, occupational safety, operational management, electrical safety, A3 power system operation, road maintenance, and machinery operation, which ensures their competence and cohesion.
Mr. Dinh Viet Cuong, Director of Deo Ca Tunnel Operation Management Enterprise, stated that “To ensure safety and smooth operation for tens of millions of vehicles over the past 8 years, our staff has worked tirelessly, demonstrating responsibility and high professionalism. We are proud that the Deo Ca tunnel not only meets transportation needs but also helps transform the region’s socio-economic landscape, affirming its position as a leading modern and safe transportation project in Vietnam.”
Staff at the Enterprise demonstrate high professionalism and responsibility in their work.
Deo Ca tunnel is a key national transportation project that connects Phu Yen (now part of Dak Lak) and Khanh Hoa provinces. With a total length of 13.19 km, including 4.125m of Deo Ca tunnel, 500m of Co Ma tunnel, and 8.565m of approach roads, it was Vietnam’s first large-scale road tunnel project built under the BOT model, fully funded and executed by domestic private enterprises.
Despite numerous challenges, the project was completed after nearly 5 years of construction and officially inaugurated on August 21, 2017. In 2018, Deo Ca tunnel was honored as a typical project of Vietnam’s construction sector for its scale, quality, and significance to the country’s development.
Since its opening, the tunnel has reduced travel time over Ca pass from 60 minutes to just 10 minutes, eliminating accident black spots and reducing traffic accidents. The project has not only boosted socio-economic development in Central Vietnam but also affirmed the skill and intellect of Vietnamese people in conquering a complex, large-scale mountain tunnel project for the first time. From this foundation, DEOCA Group has grown from a small cooperative in Phu Yen into a leading brand in Vietnam’s infrastructure sector with international ambitions.
To celebrate the 8th anniversary of Deo Ca tunnel’s operation and promote sports, wellness, and a vibrant work environment for its employees, the 1st Deo Ca Tunnel Pickleball Tournament will be held on August 22. The event will bring together 28 athletes in 14 pairs from various operation management enterprises and toll booths in the Central region. Following this, on August 23, the official 8th Anniversary Celebration of Deo Ca Tunnel Operation Management Enterprise will take place at the Deo Ca Tunnel Operation Center. |
