Hai Van tunnel connecting Thua Thien Hue – Da Nang is one of the arterial roads, playing an extremely important role in promoting economic development. Therefore, the monitoring, maintenance and operation of the Hai Van tunnel is also extremely stressful to ensure the safety of people and vehicles.

The building operates all activities of the Hai Van tunnel through a smart camera system installed throughout the route, from the path to the inside of the tunnel.

One day at the end of the year, we followed the staff of Deo Ca Transport Infrastructure Investment Joint Stock Company – the management and operation unit of Hai Van tunnel to observe the process of monitoring, maintenance and operation of two Hai Van road tunnels.

Inside the operating area, located in the southern part of the pass, is the place where the “magic eye” system is located to monitor all activities inside the two tunnels from passing traffic, unusual incidents, failures. … Once an incident occurs, the “quick response team” will immediately be present to handle the situation promptly.

In addition, every day, there will be staff to clean, check the signal board system, clean and maintain the fan system, camera … to all operate smoothly and efficiently.

As soon as the Hai Van 2 tunnel was put into operation, the workload became more. However, according to Deo Ca Transport Infrastructure Investment Joint Stock Company, the traffic jam is no longer present, the visibility in the tunnel is on average 85-95%, the average speed of the vehicles increases about 45km/h to 65km/h.

In particular, the average time for vehicles to pass through the tunnel has been reduced from about 15 minutes to only about 6 minutes, it helped to reduce accidents and there were no longer situations that caused prolonged congestion, causing the authorities to have to divide and regulate traffic in one lane as before.
