The operation management unit of Hai Van tunnel said that the worry about traffic jams in the tunnel on holidays have ended.
During the holidays of April 30 and May 1, Hai Van tunnel serves an average of more than 13,000 vehicles per day, but there are no congestion thanks to one-way traffic both in the tunnel and on the leading road.
Mr. Vo Ngoc Trung, Deputy General Director of Deo Ca Transport Infrastructure Investment Company, the operation management unit of Hai Van tunnel, said that like in previous years, the traffic volume on holidays is still higher than on regular days. However, since the vehicles can run in two tunnels, there is no longer long-term congestion in the tunnel, on the north and south leading roads and even at Bac Hai Van toll station.
“The traffic is smoother than the holidays of previous years. The time to travel through the tunnel is shortened, averaging about 5 to 6 minutes, the visibility in the tunnel is clear, the vehicles well comply with the regulations when traveling. Besides, in case there is an incident in the tunnel, it does not cause congestion like it used to be”, Mr. Trung said.
In 2020, the number of vehicles passing through the tunnel on April 30, 2020 is 10,762 turns, on May 1, 2020 is 10,210 turns. It’s forbidden to overtake on the leading roads of the tunnel, and vehicles had to travel in both directions in one tunnel. As a result, there was prolonged congestion and sometimes stuck in the tunnel as well as on the leading roads for hours.
Comparing to 2020’s holiday, the congestion has been completely solved, even though the traffic through the tunnel in 2020 is lower than this year. The tunnel operator unit said that on the last day of the holiday, there would be no congestion even if the volume increased further.
It is known that from 0:00 on May 1, 2021, Bac Hai Van Toll Station will adjust the toll as previously announced by the investor. The operations at the station are taking place normally.
Mr. Le Duc Quoc, deputy head of Bac Hai Van toll station, said: “The adjustment of fees does not affect toll collection activities. The drivers obeyed well when passing the station. However, there are still a few drivers who do not know the adjustment information, but all have been answered by our staff and they quickly comply”.
Mr. Le Duc Quoc also highly appreciated the active cooperation of the two local authorities: “On this holiday, the authorities of Hue and Da Nang, especially Thua Thien Hue province and the Directorate for Roads of Vietnam are cooperating closely with us to ensure traffic safety on the entire route”.
Thus, Hai Van with 2 tunnels and leading road system for the first time served people on a national holiday, the traffic increased, but there was no longer any congestion like before. This brings comfort to the driver and contributes to promoting trade and economic development in Hue and Da Nang area in particular and the whole country in general.
