Hai Van 2 Tunnel is nearing the finish line

(NLD) – On July 30, Mr. Nguyen Tan Dong, Deputy General Director of Deo Ca Investment Joint Stock Company (DCIC), Director of Board of Management (BOM) of Hai Van Tunnel Project – said that after launching the emulation program “90 days to complete the Hai Van tunnel 2” (parallel to Hai Van 1 Tunnel, 30m apart). Ultil now, many items have been ahead of schedule. If nothing changes, Hai Van 2 Tunnel will be opened on September 25 and put into operation in 2020.

According to Mr. Dong, the progress of some road and bridge items is slower than planned (bridge piers; road section in XL3 package; beams and deck slabs at bridge 2, bridge 5, bridge 6, bridge 7 in XL5 package) due to the lack of workers and construction equipment. Therefore, Hai Van Tunnel Project’s BOM has requested the contractors to speed up the progress to put the Project into operation in 2020. Mr. Dong emphasized: “The technology of the Hai Van 2 Tunnel is taken command by the Vietnamese instead of foreigners as that of Hai Van 1 Tunnel”.

Regarding the construction, Mr. Bui Hong Dang, Director of the Project’s BOM in charge of construction and installation 1 and 2, said that the great difficulty in building Hai Van 2 Tunnel has been had to blast the mines right next to the Hai Van 1 Tunnel. The blasting must be controlled in a certain period of time to ensure traffic of the Hai Van 1 Tunnel. If there is any problem in this process, it will affect all others of the Project. Moreover, the two ends of the Project are in tourist areas, so it is necessary to pay attention to environmental issues. The construction units must build a water filter system with a dirty water tank and then clean it to produce clean water.

Mr. Dang said that after nearly 15 years of exploitation, Hai Van 1 Tunnel is currently overloaded, especially at peak times, leading to unsafe traffic such as congestion and fires. Therefore, when put into operation on schedule, Hai Van 2 Tunnel will solve above problem and meet the current and future transportation needs.
